The Black Bridge Cycle Project began in December 2005. It was apparent that many of our young people used bikes, often in a poor state of repair, so, after some consideration, it was felt that a small bike project, running two afternoons a week, would give young cyclists the opportunity to come and learn the basics of cycle mechanics and get their bikes repaired for free, thereby improving their personal safety and enjoyment of cycling.
Fortunately, the Project has secured funding from the Merkinch Partnership's Community Regeneration Fund for 2007-08. We are based at Macintosh's Motorcycle Shed in Grant Street, Merkinch. We are reasonably well equipped, and have dozens of old/disused bikes for repair, plus spare parts. We also have a pool table for the young people to play on whilst they wait to repair their bikes. Typically, we have an average of 8-10 young people at our workshops.
Workshops: Tuesdays & Fridays 3-5pm. Bike Mechanic: Dave Stewart. Tel: 717639
